Throughout the next four weeks, you are going to hear from some of the amazing CrossFit coaches I have met over the last few years during my own journey. A few years ago, I asked some of my favorites to share their encouragement and philosophy with me in an effort to provide others with some inspiration.
Meet Todd Widman:
To start the ball rolling, I would like to share my favorite quote from my favorite book: Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
“…What is needed is a fundamental change in our attitude toward life…It does not really matter what we expect from life, but rather what life expects from us…to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who are being questioned by life – hourly and daily. Our answer must consist not in talk and thought but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answers to it’s problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual.”
We as human beings can choose what it is we do and how we do it, something unique to the rest of the world and its creatures. Exercising, in particular exercising as hard as we can physically and mentally, is a defining moment as a member of the human family that we can share in the distinct privilege. Each and every WOD becomes a test of will, determination, and resolve that becomes the patchwork of defining characteristics that make us whole. Choose to work out. Choose to go all in and to give every WOD everything. Accept the failure you experience in each WOD with resolve to improve for the next day. Strive to be better each and every day and join in the dance of humanity.
Train hard,
Todd Widman
